The Centre for Teaching and Learning of the University of West Attica successfully organized its 6th online seminar titled “Educational Design”. The event took place on Wednesday, April 25, 2023, from 17.00 to 20.00 via MS Teams platform.
The steering committee of CTL UniWA, consisting of Y. Psaromiligkos, S. Asonitou, and M. Chatzigianni, introduced keynote speaker, Dr. Timos Almpanis. Mr. Almpanis commenced his presentation by emphasizing the significance of educational planning. He argued that the curricula of higher education institutions must be meticulously aligned with the ever-evolving needs of students, necessitating a collaborative approach that embraces the principles of educational planning. Moreover, Mr. Almpanis espoused the view that the module evaluation questionnaire serves as a vital instrument in educational planning. This questionnaire empowers students to provide targeted feedback, thereby facilitating a comprehensive assessment and the annual formulation of the Programme Enhancement Plan.
The issues raised in an open dialogue after Mr. Almpanis’ speech can be summarised as follows:
- Emphasizing the reuse of an educational design through a template that would help the academic community.
- Highlighting the lack of educational design in Greek academic institutions.
- Strengthening and encouraging students to engage in group work and actively participate in educational design by establishing specific criteria and guidelines that encourage their involvement.
- Maximizing the potential for innovation and creativity through a more dynamic and interactive learning environment.
- Strengthening educational awareness, as it is a driving force within the academic community.
